A great collector piece! These are becoming quite scarce. In 1950 a batch of these were created as prototype ashtrays but popularity never caught on and they never went into production. The design is pretty clever... a beautiful ceramic bowl with a bakelite snuffer in the center. Later, you would lift the snuffer and the ashes would release into the bowl making it easier to to dispose of.
This piece originally had a wire coming out of the snuff ball which was used to hold your cigarette while not in use. The wire is unfortunately missing, however this piece is still very functional and stands out with its great geometric form.
