This book was limited to 300 copies and was published in 1933. A copy of it can be seen at the Centre Pompidou in Paris (as shown in the photos).
Illustrated by painter Maria Helena Vieira Da Silva (1908-1992)
Written by Pierre Guéguen (1889-1965)
The launch of the book coincided with the first solo art exhibition of Vieira da Silva at the Galerie Jeanne Bucher in Paris. The book is complete including 12 illustrated pages and two separate sheets that were meant to be cut out and used in the book (they remain uncut). A page towards the end cites that it was created November 1, 1933 with text pressed into a few pages which read, “GALATINA 32 L.M.F.”.
Artworks by Vieira da Silva are held in important collections throughout the world, including Museum of Modern Art, Tate Stedelijk Museum, Centre Georges Pompidou, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA), Tate, Art Institute of Chicago, Guggenheim Museum, Moderna Museet, and Museo Reina Sofía.
Some wear to the cover. Discoloration from age to some illustrations. The fabric binding has a good hold but is separating on the ends.
A great piece with few other known examples. Additional photos and information are available on request.
